I am mainly interested in understanding the
underlying physical mechanisms responsible for the phenomenon of
transition to turbulence in fluid dynamics, a long standing open
problem of classical physics. In particular, my research focuses on
the seek of the so called Exact Coherent Hydrodynamic Structures, that
have long been vindicated by theoricists as the precursors and
backbone ingredients required to generate and sustain turbulence. My
research embraces many branches of applied mathematics, ranging from
nonlinear partial differential equations, dynamical systems and
bifurcation theory, to highly advanced numerical and computational
methodologies, such
as spectral Fourier-Chebyshev-Legendre methods, or Newton-Krylov
homotopy techniques, to mention just a few.
