Dr. Claudia Grossi, is a physicist with a transversal scientific background and research experience. The Research, Transfer of Knowledge and Academic activities carried out by Claudia are fully integrated in the goals of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development (Health, Education and Climate Actions). Her activity embraces different fields of experimental and theoretical physics such as Nuclear physics, Radiation protection, Biophysics, Geophysics and Atmospheric sciences. Her work is mainly focused on the measurements and modelling of isotopes and radioisotopes behaviour in the atmosphere and soil to understand geophysical and atmospheric processes and for their following applications in the protection of the climate and the citizens health.
Claudia currently is working at the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC) within the research group IONHE (Ionising Radiation, Health and Environment, SGR Cat2021) of the Institut de Tècniques Energètiques (INTE) and is Lecturer professor of the Physics Department of the UPC. Claudia has ongoing collaborations with researchers based in Europe, Canada and Australia and published with them several papers, in Q1 Indexed Journals, many of them as first author. Claudia participated as pre-doctoral, doctoral or post-doctoral researcher in national and international projects over Europe (total budget of about 7 M€). She has experience as team leader and she coordinated and recruited funding for national and international projects.
She is working in two main research lines: i) Radon Radiation Protection (RRP): This line focuses on the improvement of the metrology of indoor radon measurements in Spain to be used for Radiation Protection issues in agreement with Directive EU-BSS. The candidate obtained the license as supervisor of radioactive installations by the Consejo de Seguridad Nuclear in 2017 to manage the INTE-UPC radon chamber for service and transfer of knowledge. Claudia has been involved in European (METROradon) and National projects (BOE-A-2019-16780) and private contracts for the calibration and harmonization of continuous and integrated instruments in Spain; ii) Isotopes and Radioisotopes for Climate and Environment (IRCE): The work done by Claudia is helping to make a step forward in the GHGs budget in Catalonia and Europe using atmospheric tracers and transport models. Claudia participated in several projects and she was Principal Investigator of the 3-years project Methane interchange between air and soil over the Iberian Peninsula (CGL2013-46186-R). In 2019, Claudia was co-IP of the project funded by Ajuts Indústria del Coneixement any 2019 (Modalitat A), Ajuts Llavor (2020-2021) to bring to the market a high sensitive radon monitor which has recently been Licensed to the company Radonova. Between 2020-2023, she worked in the European project TraceRadon (Implementation of radon metrology for the analysis of the atmospheric budget of the greenhouse gases and radiation protection in environment, SRT-v03).
