From cells to organisms, living systems are inherently multiscale. To understand the biophysical principles of living systems across scales, my group uses concepts from soft matter, nonlinear and out-of-equilibrium physics in close collaboration with experimentalists. In particular, we are interested in how mesoscopic physical properties in cells and tissues arise from the interaction of its constituent elements. We are also interested in developing analytical and computational methods to infer the mechanical properties of tissues from time-lapse imaging data.
