Short CV

María del Carmen Casas Castillo is a Doctor in Physics Sciences from the Universitat de Barcelona and associate professor of the Physics Department at the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya·BarcelonaTech (UPC). She has participated in various R&D Projects financed by government organizations in public calls, as well as in R&D contracts of special relevance with companies (CETaqua Water Technology Center, Aqualogy Aqua Ambiente Servicios Integrales SA). Her main research area is rainfall analysed from its different aspects, such as its spatio-temporal distribution, its characterization based on the structure of its temporal series, and the influence of climate change on the recurrence of its extreme episodes, with more than 80 scientific publications including articles, communications to congresses and scientific-technical reports. Some of her first relevant results were those related to studies with important practical application in the field of hydrology and urban drainage, being her determination of the spatial distribution of the maximum daily precipitation in the entire region of Catalonia one of the most requested technical publications of the Meteorological Service of Catalonia to date. Later works were dedicated to the study of the multifractal behaviour of rainfall in Barcelona and the influence of climate change on its hydrologic characteristics, as well as to the analysis of the non-linear structural complexity of the monthly rainfall regime in Catalonia, its trends and their relationship with CO2 emissions. She has also working in the modelling of pollen emission and transport, and in the influence of meteorological synoptic patterns on airborne pollen and spore levels.
