I carry out experimental research in molecular and macromolecular soft matter, employing techniques such as calorimetry, X-ray diffraction, and especially broadband dielectric spectroscopy. I work on molecular and polymeric glass formers, orientationally disordered crystals and plastic crystals, and binary mixtures and amorphous dispersions. The focus is on solid-solid phase transitions and glass transitions, and in particular on the conformational dynamics and relaxation dynamics associated with the glass transition (structural and Johari-Goldstein relaxations) in glasses and orientationally disordered solids.
My activity in recent years has focused on amorphous formulation of active pharmaceutical ingredients to enhance their bioavailability. I am currently in charge of the UPC semester of the European Master Biopham, which aims at creating a generation of experts in material science applied to the pharmaceutical industry.
